Modern Languages

Bienvenue! Welcome to learning the most popular romance language in the world, taught by specialist language teachers and a French language assistant. Our pupils study French in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, at GCSE level. We also offer a Graded Objective Certificate in Spanish, awarded by CCEA, at Key Stage 4.

Our philosophy is 'to learn effectively through enjoyment' and so lessons are planned to be fun as well as challenging: Pupils are engaged in group and pair work regularly, singing French songs, doing role-plays and mime and fashion shows. They also enjoy ICT based activities which include making presentations, designing power-points and leaflets and playing interactive games. The curriculum is also brought to life throughout the year with French breakfasts, picnics and celebrating Pancake Tuesday with crêpes tasting. European Day of Languages is also an important event.

Regular trips to France are organised by the department and are extremely popular. In March 2009, 50 pupils and 6 staff visited all the famous, must-see sights as well as having a tour of the Stade de France and a day at Disney. Fantastique!
