WORLD BOOK DAY CELEBRATION!

WORLD BOOK DAY CELEBRATION!

On World Book Day 5th March, in Parkhall we had a special extra-long assembly and activities throughout the day to celebrate in style.

In the assembly, we found out that Mr Moody’s favourite book was The Book Thief. We also heard from Colm Craig from Antrim Library about their new book group, and some of our own pupils (Jake Hopkin, Lara Foster, Lewis Chamberlain, Sara Joseph and Jadyn Coates) gave brilliant speeches about how reading helps them in their lives. Sarah Clements from Cancer Fund for Children also encouraged us to join in with the “Read On” event and thanked us for all of the selection boxes at Christmas.

The awards for Battle of the Books were presented by Miss Bowden to the winner Chloe Wilde, runner up, Kailey Wright and the draw was made for Sara Vaughn to also be a runner up.

Later that day, the year 8s got together in the hall for a bumper World Book Day Quiz, where they named various movies, books and characters from the world of literature.

Miss McEvoy and Miss Beck were in charge and Miss McEvoy was the fantastic compere!

Interesting team names included, The Chicken Goujons, Warrior Cats and Broken Pen. The winners of each session were The Hungry Caterpillars and Griffindor, who had chosen suitable booky names!

Overall, it was a very competitive and fun with lots of fabulous prizes. It was a great way to spend world book day, even better than being in class!
