The vision of the Technology and Design Department at Parkhall Integrated College is to offer equal opportunities to all students. We achieve this by offering a broad and balanced curriculum, which allows students to achieve their maximum potential.
We strive to stimulate an interest in learning through problem solving and technological activities. We attempt to help students to develop their imaginations, sensitivity and creative responses to a wide range of aesthetic experiences.
Technology has an important part to play in helping all students to acquire the knowledge and skills that will be needed for them to take an active role in their future developments. Students should develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills, both on their own and in groups.
As a department we promote high standards of academic achievements through designing, making and evaluating results. We work together as an enthusiastic team and promote an environment where all students develop personal responsibility and self-motivation but consider the needs and achievements of others.
Key stage 3 is an in depth focus of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. During each year the students tackle a balance of resource and capability tasks. The tasks are targeted to ensure the maximum coverage of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
At key stage 4 the Technology and Design department aims to provide a variety of courses that are suitable to all students’ abilities. We currently offer either traditional GCSE or vocational, Occupational Studies courses:
GCSE (CCEA)
Occupational Studies (CCEA)
Our key stage 4 results are consistently higher than the Northern Ireland Average with most students gaining an A*- C grade.
The department has a number of links with industry that provide students with opportunities to embed their learning in the curriculum in a work-related context.
